    • Daley Terrace
The Daley Terrace is a landscape project for a retired couple in Phoenix, Arizona. The design objective was to create an outdoor family room. The design is organized along a singular wall which unifies the cooking area, spa, fireplace, bench, and creates the feeling of an outdoor room. The sound and sight of water are important elements of the design and the spillway of the zero-edge spa are alined to be viewed from the kitchen table of the house and the narrow trough into which the water spills is designed create a relaxing water sound. Careful attention was paid to find local materials and products including 5 ton boulder sourced from a quarry less than 3 miles from the site, limestone from Mexico, locally grown desert plants, pavers made in Phoenix, and a bbq grill manufactured entirely in the Los Angeles area.
    • Forever at War: The Flood
The painter Ben Tritt approached Tweed Studio with the proposal to collaborate on an art installation intended to travel throughout the world. Ben is working on a five part series of works which will span more than a decade. This portion of the project Book Four - The Flood contains within it multiple narratives each represented by the panels / walls of the project. Bens painting explores the line between painting and space and as such the design of the project can not be described with clear lines of distinction. The project is not a static exhibition but rather an evolving piece which accumulates materials and modifies its form and painting in reaction to each place it occupies. In addition to design Tweed Studio fabricated and installed the piece in most of its iterations.
    • Lindsey Residence
Currently the Lindsey Residence is at the end of the Schematic Design phase. The project will be an new home for the client and her 2 children on the site of their current home in Rochester, New York. One of the clients main objectives is to create a sustainable home. In doing so we are following the LEED for Homes Guidelines and expect that the project would be capable of achieving a LEED Silver rating. The home will be fully universal or barrier-free design. As a response to both the personality of the client and to the context of the site it is important that the home will have modest quality and be clearly rooted in place. The design intends to use regional stone and other local building materials. Although the final design has not been selected many of the design options look to the 4 square grid homes which are common in the region and are an inherently efficient form both spatially and in terms of energy performance.
    • Martin Residence
The Martin Residence is home for the parents of one of the founders of Tweed Studio, Haily Tweedie. The project is located in Del Rio, Texas in an 80 year old pecan orchard. The site is located along San Felippe Creek less than a mile from the Rio Grande and the US-Mexico border. The rich context of the place led to a design which draws on the form and material of both a Texas ranch house and a Mexican hacienda. Energy efficiency is important to the client and we are following many provisions of the LEED for Homes Guidelines. Rather than addressing these issues as disparate concerns, the design unifies the regional qualities of the home with energy efficiency measures. The design is dominated by the thick limestone walls which are oriented along the line of the orchard rows and are shaded by the canopy of the trees. The volume of the home is divided into two volumes creating a courtyard space. These two strategies allow the home to rely on thermal mass which temper heating and cooling demands and allows the portion of the home for guests to be unconditioned when it is not being used.
    • Downing Street Residence
The Downing Street Residence is our own home in Denver, Colorado. The residence is one unit of a small Craftsman Style condo building constructed in 1910. The design concept was to create a playful contrast to the dark wood and rectilinear forms while maintaing a sense of continuity between the elements. Much of the furniture that we chose has a sense of plasticity and the use of the pure white color gives a freshness to the heaviness of Craftsman Style elements. Renovations to the unit include electrical and plumbing upgrades, extensive renovation of the bathroom, skim coating in various locations, painting throughout, new closets, custom made light fixtures, cabinetry, and furniture. We performed all of the work ourselves.
